| Delbarton edges MoBeard in thriller
In a goaltending duel worthy of Martin Brodeur, Delbarton's top-ranked hockey team defeated No. 13 Morristown Beard 2-0 on Friday night to advance to the state semifinals. The Green Wave will face No. 5 Bishop Eustace on March 15 at 2 p.m. at Mennen Arena in Morris Township. From The Star-Ledger: Delbarton's prolific offense was held scoreless through two periods while firing 24 shots at Morristown-Beard goaltender Doug Taylor, who played a spectacular 45 minutes. Morristown-Beard (20-6-1) employed a 1-2-2 passive forecheck for most of the first two periods and kept Delbarton's forwards away from rebounds with sound coverage in its own end. But Bell, a senior forward, finally solved the puzzle 1:56 into the third when he took a pass from linemate Mike Smigelski, curled in the left circle and snapped a high shot that Taylor was unable to stop to give Delbarton (25-1-1) a 1-0 lead.
Peach Buzz
This was a wedding for couples who don't mind sharing the spotlight on a wedding day and whose idea of romance is the more the merrier. "You know it's not for everyone," Stephen Palmer, a wedding planner and organizer of the event, told Buzz. "But halfway through the ceremony, all eyes were on these couples and weddings are so emotional and when you multiply that by 18, it's really, really cool." And Palmer, married himself about 11 years, surprised his wife, Jennifer, with renewing their vows. "It really took us back to the day we got married on the beach in Hawaii, and we've had a very cuddly weekend ever since." Plans are already on their way for the next event. They will call it "Tie the Knot on Tybee 3 —Third Time's a Charm." Heidi Klum opens arms to Britney Heidi Klum wants to help Britney Spears.

AAAS: State of the Art in Nuclear Physics-Theory
The final symposium I attended on Sunday before heading to the airport was a real brain bender. Titled "Nuclear physics: New answers, new questions about the visible universe." The talks spanned both theoretical and experimental aspects of the field—this article will focus on the theoretical lectures, a second article will cover the experimental discussions. The first speaker, Dr. Don Geesaman, eloquently stated the goals of the field: "the mission in nuclear physics is to understand the origin, evolution, and structure of baryonic matter in the universe—the matter that makes up stars, planets, and human life itself." All of the talks, both experimental and theoretical focused on hadrons, their substituent quarks, and the forces that hold them together. Hadrons are strongly interacting subatomic particles that are composed of quarks.
Candidates reveal differences at forum
The town candidates were asked to give two-minute response to such questions as: How would you address violence in Taos? How would you make Taos a sustainable community? Did you agree with term limits? How would you improve tourism? How would you increase lodger’s tax revenue? What would you do to stop the bickering on the town council?Incumbent Councilors Erlinda Gonzales and Melitón Struck opposed term limits, but the remaining candidates all suggested councilors be limited to two four-year terms.Candidate Amy Quintana, however, pointed out that a change in state law might be required to allow term limits for councilors.Eugene Sánchez vowed that he would work with legislators to change the law.But the candidates for two open seats in the March 4 election revealed more differences in their direct response to comments from their challengers.Gonzales and Struck expressed their objection to the proposed SmartCode, which would provide a Master Plan to guide the town’s land use regulations.Struck said the proposed SmartCode would not protect the historic district in Taos and Gonzales said she opposed the recommendation in the preliminary plan allowing three-story buildings in the downtown area. The other candidates saw the SmartCode as a way to resolve conflicts in the town’s land use ordinances and Amy Quintana pointed to the failure of the town manager to fill the planning director position for more than a year as an obstruction to the town’s ability to plan for the future, especially in regard to approving the SmartCode.Julia Valerma said the SmartCode encompasses most the Vision 20/20 plan touted by Struck and Gonzales over the SmartCode, but said it would define the current and immediate needs of the community. The Vision 20/20 Plan, which was created by extensive grassroots input in 1999, was never formally adopted by the town council.
Brooks Global-Lok Sets a New Quality Standard in Security Seals
LIVINGSTON, N.J., Nov. 12 /PRNewswire/ -- Over the past two years, E.J. Brooks has been conducting market research as part of its new product development initiative to further improve the performance and feature levels of mechanical cable seals that are used in cross border and intermodal use around the world. Being the only security seal manufacturer that is a validated member of C-TPAT as well as a strong believer in independent testing by a third party ISO 17712 accredited lab, global compliancy is Brooks number one objective. However, the logistics community raised other issues that were considered in product design and we are now announcing a breakthrough in mechanical cross border security seal protection. E.J. Brooks is proud to announce the introduction of the Global-Lok, a high security cable seal that is not only ISO 17712 compliant, but exceeds the ISO 17712 required minimum tensile strength level by 82% with over 4,000 lbs of pressure necessary to pull it apart.
Hansen: Criminal past isn't deal-killer at I-80 Re-entry Job Fair
At least 25 companies set up tables on the ground floor for 400 job-seekers. There were local big dogs like Pioneer Hi-Bred, Vermeer and Bankers Trust. There were little guys like Advance Asphalt and Seibert Trucking. There were chains like Arby's, Manpower and O'Reilly Auto Parts. There were social service agencies serving as sponsors with Iowa Workforce Development, Federal Probation and Parole, and the Iowa Department of Corrections. There were tables for filling out applications. There was a sign above one table that said "Public Records Checked While You Wait." There was an interview room and a clothes closet for anyone who needed more starch. Some of the job hunters wore jackets and ties. Some wore jeans and tattoos. A group from the Mitchellville women's prison wore blue prison-issue work scrubs, passed out resumes and made contacts for later.
E-mail still ranks as top threat to U.S. industry
This isn't malware for the masses anymore," said Jeff Green, senior vice president, McAfee Avert Labs. "Cybercrooks have become extremely deft at learning the nuances of the local regions and creating malware specific to each country. They're not skilled just at computer programming - they're skilled at psychology and linguistics too." But with the skills evident in today's cyber crooks is authentication an answer and can learning how to better manage your mail help? The answer is yes on both points, but according to McAfee's Jeff Green, "We're in a constant chess match." IT-Business Canada reported last week Friday that the Quebec provincial police force arrested 17 hackers associated with running a one million-computer botnet that caused an estimated CAN$45 million in damage.
Katie Lee Joel's cookin' up a rock-star life
But Katie's cool, like she's back home in West Virginia on a lazy summer afternoon making a little something to eat with her grandma, the woman who taught her to love the kitchen. ''I have always loved cooking, since I was a little girl,'' says Katie, 26, whose first cookbook, The Comfort Table (Simon Spotlight Entertainment, $25), to be published in late April, features down-home recipes from her days of growing up around farmers. Granddad kept a big garden, and his cousins raised cows and pigs. ''My grandma would bring a stool over to the counter so that I could help her. My favorite was making biscuits, because it was like Play-Doh,'' Katie says. ``If I slept in, and she had already made the biscuits for breakfast, that was when I would have my little cry. She would always end up having to make more just so that I could help.'' The kitchen in the Joels' winter home is big and fancy.
