| First, Step Up
With no money and no organization, seven of us launched StepItUp in January 2007. Before the year was out, we'd helped organize 2,000 demonstrations in all 50 states-and helped take our once-radical demand for an 80 percent reduction in U.S. carbon emissions by mid-century into the halls of power. We haven't won yet-but we're way beyond what we could have expected when we began. Last November, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi stood at a podium in front of 7,000 college students gathered from around the country at the University of Maryland and led them in a chant: "80 percent by 2050." I'm as cynical as the next guy, but it feels like our democracy is starting to work. It will need to work much better, though. We'll need to see a whole new level of commitment-to nonviolent protest, to electioneering, to endless lobbying.
Terapad Pro
It seems that every week a new content management system (CMS) or blogging platform makes its debut, despite the fact that there's little to differentiate them. You pay a small fee (or nothing at all if you don't mind ads being placed on your site) and they take care of your site's design, installation and hosting. Terapad is continuing the trend, allowing both newcomers and seasoned web developers to get an attractive site live in a matter of minutes. Only Terapad is different -- very different. Fully-featured WYSIWYG editing, CSS control and layout control gives full control of how your blog/site looks. One-click integration of other features like a forum, static web page, events calendar, image gallery, job board, as well as PayPal-enabled shopping basket -- these distance Terapad from its competitors.

Update: Library Has 10 Copies of "Water for Elephants"
No Zags: Candidate endorsement is one of the most antiquated and soon-to-be-extinct functions of the newspaper industry. In a world where anybody can publish any opinion they want and anyone can read it, it seems pretty silly that the "wise old minds" of an editorial board still feel the need to put a newspaper's stamp of approval on a political position. Endorsements are relics of the old-journalism past, as are editorials. Question: I'm curious about the last sentence of No Zags' comment. Are editorials, indeed, relics. Or are the still important contributions to the public dialogue -- and help form community opinion? .
TaylorMade-adidas Commercial Shoot
Monday was one of the most remarkable days I've seen in my years of covering golf. I spent the day at Mountain Gate GC in Los Angeles where TaylorMade-adidas had rented out the course to complete a wide array of work for its advertisements. There were photo shoots, television shoots and internet tapings for a number of different products. A stable of TaylorMade pros were on hand to pose and smile and hit shots for the cameras. They were moved from position to position to position through a long day. That included Mike Weir, Jason Day, Justin Rose, Retief Goosen, Sergio Garcia and Sean O'Hair. (My timing wasn't great on this one – Natalie Gulbis and Paula Creamer were here a day earlier.) I drove around with Richard "not a guru" Sullivan of the Canadian TM office and as we sped along, we saw Goosen taping something for the internet, then O'Hair doing a television commercial for the ball.
