| Julie Bishop says attacks on Brendan Nelson 'unfair'
ATTACKS on Opposition Leader Brendan Nelson are "unfair and unnecessary" and he should be given a fair go, his deputy leader says. In a further blow to Dr Nelson, the latest Galaxy Poll published today by News Ltd gives him only nine per cent support as preferred Liberal leader. Opposition treasury spokesman Malcolm Turnbull, former treasurer Peter Costello and Deputy Liberal Leader Julie Bishop are all preferred over Dr Nelson. Ms Bishop today thanked the people who voted for her in the poll but said she was focused on the deputy leadership. She conceded the coalition was going through "difficult times". "But Brendan is a decent, caring, competent politician, and I think he should be given a go," Ms Bishop told ABC television. "I think people should get off his back and let him get on with the job that he has been elected to do, and that's leader of the opposition, holding the government to account.

Second, even if it does, the copyright owner has to prove that an actual distribution occurred -- it's not enough to say it could have happened. This doesn't leave the recording industry without a weapon -- everyone agrees that file sharing involves the making of unauthorized copies of songs. It's just that the recording industry doesn't want to have to go to the trouble of gathering and introducing evidence of copying in court (like everyone else does). It's much easier to rely exclusively on MediaSentry's downloads from each defendant -- that way there is no need to know anything about the defendant. The trouble with this is the precedent it sets for the future. Already, the recording industry has sued XM as a "distributor" because they transmit satellite radio to subscribers who have recording devices.

Wal-mart's giving Southern Shopping Center businesses a reason to ...
If they're waiting for their computer to be fixed, they do some shopping, then come back," he said. Consumer Viola Needham has been drawn to Wal-Mart because it's less busy than the one close to her house on Military Highway, she said. Needham, who's retired, opened her plastic bag and pulled out two bras. She paid about $18 for both at Wal-Mart. They cost $20 at the nearby Kmart, she said. "It just gives you more shopping power," Needham said of the retailer's prices. Tristan Lucas, an Old Dominion University junior who once lived in Bentonville, unloaded her young daughter from her shopping cart, which ballooned over with groceries. "It's not my No. 1 choice of a store," she said, "but whenever you get everything in one place, it's convenient." Jennifer Jiggetts, (757) 446-2643, jennifer.jiggetts@pilotonline.com .

FBI Says Airline Plotters Had No US Link
The terrorism conference drew hundreds of British and international law enforcement officials, intelligence agents and lawyers. Two former British extremists _ one who spent more than four years in an Egyptian jail _ also spoke, warning that militants will change tactics once they think they've been profiled. A host of challenges confront counterterrorism agents today, including technology advances that make communication undetectable, Internet recruiting sites, gaps in international law that limit international cooperation, and the mutation of al-Qaida. "I do not have an al-Qaida cell that I could put on the board for you," Billy said. "We have not seen that. We have seen individuals with some links _ some indirect ties, some more direct _ but to have (a) cell that is plotting and moving forward has yet to be found." The men accused of trying to blow up at least 10 U.S.-bound airliners in 2006 are to appear in a London court in April _ just one of many terrorism cases with international implications.
Wisconsin Sports Spectacular
It showed a LOT of disrespect for the officials when he KNEW that they had to make the last snap. Undoubtedly he's been on the other side of that situation before. I can maybe understand in the moment he forgot, and started to go out onto the field, but when he continued out there and shook Coughlin's hand, and then goes into the locker room when his team had to stay out there and see the last snap and the Giants celebration, that was wrong. It took something away from the last snap of the Super Bowl, which I always see as a classic moment when the winning team has the ball and is running out the clock. .

Apple Time Capsule backup drive review
I had to restart the unit more times than I like, fix a few configuration errors in its 'automatic' configuration, and deal with a glitch in getting Time Machine to select the right drive. Perhaps most surprising about this combination of a Wi-Fi base station and internal network-attached storage (NAS) drive is that Time Capsule doesn't just allow you to back up to its internal drive: you can also perform Time Machine backups to drives attached to the Time Capsule via USB. This feature was promised before Leopard's release for the AirPort Extreme Base Station (2007 models), but later removed from Apple's list of Leopard features. In a quick test of a full backup, Leopard transferred the first gigabyte of data over 100 Mbps ethernet to the Time Capsule's internal drive at about 16 megabits per second (Mbps), and to an externally connected Iomega high-performance hard drive at about 16Mbps.
