| Hillary wafts in like a blast from the past
Hillary Rodham Clinton's visit to Robstown Wednesday illustrated what many people find troubling about her campaign. Some Clinton critics, even Democrats, have feared she would carry on "politics as usual" in Washington, D.C., describing her as such a consummate politician that she has little credibility when talking about bringing change to our government. Wednesday's rally felt like old South Texas politics, complete with homage to some politicians who haven't held office for years and vintage music. While her opponent, Sen. Barack Obama, is immortalized in "YouTube" videos created by current musicians such as Will.i.am (yes, that's his name) of the Black Eyed Peas, Robstown's Clinton audience took a trip down memory lane with a variation of the 1960s "Twist" and Dolly Parton's "9 to 5" from 1980.
Can Web-based Worlds Teach Us About the Real One?
Robert Bloomfield is tinkering with such a plan. As an accounting professor at Cornell University, in Ithaca, N.Y., he researches virtual worlds - a nascent, but growing, field in the social sciences. His studies in economic policy lead him into digital realms where the laws of gravity don't apply. But what about the laws of supply and demand? Immersive online worlds such as Second Life and World of Warcraft attract populations that outnumber Sweden's. And now, scientists are following players down the rabbit hole in hopes of learning more about the real world. By tapping into the behavior of an estimated 73 million online gamers, Bloomfield and others hope to study the effects of public policy with an ease and specificity that only computers can deliver.

Score it as a dubious block
We all work hard and then, with one trade, the balance goes boom."), but he, like everyone else, is waiting to see what happens with the glacial O'Neal and the high-octane Suns. "They're not going to change the system and all of a sudden be rock 'em, sock 'em basketball," Popovich said. "They're going to figure out a way to slide Shaq in there just like they slid Kurt Thomas in there. It makes it tough for us in the sense that they have someone who can guard Timmy better." Eastern play still pretty beastly Remember all the preseason talk about how the Eastern Conference had narrowed the talent gap with the West? Oh well. At the All-Star break, the 23-30 New Jersey Nets would be the seventh seed in the East while the 32-20 Denver Nuggets would not make the playoffs in the West.

Comcast: we’ll loose TV subs
The AB group has concluded a range of deals ahead of its launch of the low cost satellite platform Bis Television next week. The basic Bis package costs just E4.90 a month for 25 channels, with film and adult add-on options costing an extra E4.90 a month each. AB has just concluded a deal with the Arabic platform ART to include its channels as a further option. Also, AB has concluded alliances with box manufacturers and the distribution channels to roll out a range of STBs with the Bis label and including a viewing card in the package, for E149. The viewing card gives ten days of free viewing, after which it must be validated by taking out a monthly subscription. Alternatively, a tuner with a viewing card pre-paid for one year costs E199, or a one-year pre-paid card alone for E99.

But on Wednesday I was at the Ritz Carlton, Battery Park in NYC having cocktails at Rise bar and who walked out on the balcony bar but Steve Schirripa. The name may not ring a bell, but he plays Bobby "Bacala" Baccalieri -- Tony's brother-in-law. I contemplated tackling him when he walked by, so I could rough him up and get some finale secrets, but I thought better of it. He's slightly bigger than me. I guess I can wait two weeks. More: Sex on My Desk writer Josey Miller had a great star sighting of her own -- Chris Noth (a.k.a. Sex and the City's Mr. Big, who I've bumped into a few times in the last couple years.) You must read her post about their tense run-in. He wasn't all that nice. .
Apple TV 2.0 update now available [updated x3]
Apple has released the much-anticipated 2.0 update of the Apple TV software. The update brings a redesigned interface to the set-top box, as well as support for SD and HD movie rentals, iTunes Store browsing and purchasing directly from the device, AirTunes capabilities, flickr photo browsing, and more. For a more complete look at the changes, read our feature article. The Apple TV 2.0 update is available now through the "Update Software" menu selection in the Apple TV's Setting menu. Updated: The Apple TV 2.0 update currently offers 75 high-definition movie rentals, a new introductory movie, and unlike the version demonstrated at Macworld Expo in January does not appear to include a 1080p resolution setting. Apple's updating process requires at least six restarts of the Apple TV, three of which include progress bars showing that the update is currently underway, and concludes with the playback of a new movie that replaces the "wall of videos" Apple TV 1.0/1.1 introduction with a slightly different version.
