WATER POLO
Water polo is now an established sport played throughout the world but it has a long history which began in England. The first documented evidence of the game was when the Bournemouth Premier Rowing Club carried out the "first series" of aquatic handball matches" on 13 July 1876. Various ball games had been played in the water before this time, the most common seems to have been a type of polo in which the swimmer "rode" an inflated skin or barrel, propelling the ball with the hands or a form of paddle and moving about by using the feet. These games were probably more in the way of "comic relief" and the game played on "barrel horses" was still to be seen in the early years of the present century. This is probably where the name "Polo" came from. Evidence suggests that the game was played in the 1870's in Leeds with a rugby ball and in Burton-on-Trent where a goal was scored by grounding the ball on the end of the bath, with the goalkeeper standing on the end and allowed to jump onto any player in possession of the soft india rubber ball.
Salsarita's Fresh Cantina
The most popular item on the menu is the chicken burrito ($4.79), Stephens said. Also popular are the nachos ($6.79), which come with any type of meat, and the chicken or steak quesadillas ($4.79). And, of course, the margaritas can't be ignored. "I feel like we make the best margaritas around," Stephens said. Customers can choose from standard, strawberry and raspberry flavors. Salsarita's sunrise is a twist on the tequila sunrise and is also a popular drink, Stephens said. There are plans in the works to begin offering live music on weekends in the summertime, he said. Salsarita's Fresh Cantina -- 1125 Woodruff Road, suite 1905 -- is open for lunch and dinner Mondays-Saturdays from 11 a.m.-9 p.m., and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. The restaurant seats 80-85.

Coaches discuss fairness of tournament site
New year, same debate. With the Mountain West Conference Basketball Championships looming, Monday's teleconference involving the league's coaches was dominated by the near-annual debate about the fairness of UNLV hosting the conference tournament. The exact answers varied, but -- especially with five new coaches on the scene -- all pointed towards further discussion in the offseason about finding a better plan."Unfortunately, until things change, the automatic (NCAA Tournament) qualifier is the conference tournament winner," New Mexico coach Steve Alford said. "And that's why I think it's very, very important for our league to really look closely at what we're doing with our league tournament, because having it at a host school, there's not any kind of balance or anything fair to that for the other eight teams in the league."Alford, in his first year at the helm for the Lobos, has been the most vocal about the situation and has made his comments public and very clear from Day One.He coached in the Big Ten at Iowa for the last eight seasons, where the conference tournament alternates between Chicago and Indianapolis, Ind.

Southridge Students Remember Jo Jo
He was team manager, competed in the Special Olympics and always on stage for the school's talent show. He was in special ed life skills classes, but that's not what he was known for it's his big smile and winning attitude."He'd pump us up during a game and when we lost he's not upset just an unbelievable kid," said Travis Mattair.Mattair lettered in three sports, graduated last year and is now playing minor league baseball in the minor league system. He did more for us," said Mattair."I don't know what it is about us we've been through it too many times but we rally around each other," said Southridge Assistant Principal Ralph LeCompte. In Wednesday's art class, students took Jo Jo's school picture and made a ten food mosaic.
Federal judge shutters Wikileaks.org for posting bank documents
SAN FRANCISCO A federal judge has set off a free-speech tempest after shutting down a U.S. Web site for posting internal documents accusing a Cayman Islands' bank branch of money laundering and tax-evasion schemes. The Bank Julius Baer & Co. said in papers filed in U.S. District Court in San Francisco that a disgruntled executive fired for "misconduct" stole the documents and illegally posted them on Wikileaks.org. The bank also said a number of the documents have been altered, but it didn't provide details. The site claims to have posted 1.2 million leaked government and corporate documents that it says expose unethical behavior, including a 2003 operation manual for the U.S. prison at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. The bank, based in Zurich, sued Wikileaks and its San Mateo hosting company Dynadot on Feb.
COLUMN: Universal health care: There are better solutions
There use to be a time when one could afford to make a simple trip to the doctor without using an insurance card. This was before the government decided it was better suited to be in charge of your health care than you were, back in the 1960s with the establishment of Medicaid and Medicare. The years that followed would bring many tax laws into place, forcing businesses to provide health care options and turning the system into managed care, which, in turn, brought drug companies and lobbyist groups to Washington, throwing millions of dollars into the system for their corporate interests rather than people. This has taken away power from the people and doctors and given it to large corporate interests. Prices continue to increase because when the government or third parties are paying the bills rather than the individual, the hospitals and doctors charge top dollar for their services.
Queensryche has a tour stop at home
In the late 1980s, it was second only to Heart as the most popular band to come out of Seattle. Dubbed "The Thinking Man's Heavy-Metal Band" because of its smart lyrics and serious approach to music and performance, the band built a following before ever actually playing here. Determined from the start to conquer the world, it bypassed the nightclub route and went straight into the studio. Its independent recordings were hits on local radio, which led to a recording contract with EMI America. The debut "Queensryche" album came out in 1983 to good reviews and impressive sales. After that, the band began doing local shows and touring, building an international audience. Queensryche released its elaborate, political-thriller concept album, "Operation Mindcrime," in 1988, but really hit its stride in 1990 with "Empire," its slickest, most popular release.
Interview with FARC Commander Raul Reyes
But they persist and join the guerrillas, they flee from their houses and appear at our guard posts. It so happens that they join the FARC voluntarily. But many times when they leave they lie to their fathers and mothers and say that they were forced to join and the fathers and mothers believe them. And later, if the authorities conduct an investigation, the parents say that their son or daughter was forced to join and then that information is collected by Amnesty International or others. But I reiterate, it is not the policy of the FARC to recruit children or to enlist anybody by force. Q: Why does the FARC use anti-personnel landmines when they cause civilian casualties? Reyes: The FARC uses mines against the public forces. The mine fields are used against the public forces, never against the civilian population, never.
