IU sports chat with H-T's Doug Wilson & Chris Korman

First things first: do I have your permission to tell Doug his work as sports editor is "papapapathethic" next time I'm angry? Seems like a good word, one that could be delivered with force. Papapapathethic! I haven't yet watched the film of last night's game and don't know that I'll have time to give it a good review. But maybe during the Penn State game I'll do a true statistical analysis (and by that, I mean I'll try to keep track on a yellow legal pad) of how many times Gordon drives to the basket and loses the ball. And I'd bet your home in lovely Oregon that it's not anywhere near half the time. Or even 30 percent of the time. Still, I see I what you're saying. And all I can say is that great players -- and Gordon is one -- need the ball in their hands. Wayne Gretzky said you miss 100 percent of the shots you don't take.

At CBC Radio 3, podcasts reach global domination

On a wall in the Vancouver offices of CBC Radio 3 hangs a map of the world with pushpins sticking out of it. Each pin represents a person who has written to Grant Lawrence, host of The CBC Radio 3 Podcast. When the Georgia Straight interviewed Lawrence earlier this month, he proudly pointed out pins marking faraway places such as Iceland, Germany, India, and Easter Island.

One listener, Lawrence reflected while sitting on a couch in the Radio 3 lounge area, had downloaded the podcast to her iPod in an Internet café in Mongolia, and then listened to the show hundreds of feet underground while working in a uranium mine. When she's on hiatus, she lives a few blocks from Lawrence in the West End. Canadians can be found everywhere in the world, and for many of them The CBC Radio 3 Podcast is a lifeline to their home country and its unique musical culture.

American Idol: Girls will be girls

Perhaps if I talk to the contestants directly...

Oh Kathy, they are a younger generation with minds of their own. They pay no heed to the older, wiser folks who have sacrificed perfectly good date nights to watch this show. That is their folly. Until someone creates an invention that allows us to shake some sensibility into the contestants through the TV, our protests and suggestions will be ignored.

Asiah Epperson (TV Guide power ranking #6/last week #4)
Most embarrassing moment: Was a roller-skating extra in a movie and ran into some lighting equipment.
Song: I Wanna Dance With Somebody (Whitney Houston)
Kathy: Oh Asiah honey. You did fine, but it was Whitney. Not only that, but it was Whitney at her freshest; before Bobby Brown. Before crack and reality TV and doodie bubbles and rehab.

Barry Bonds' grand jury transcript unsealed

The documents, many with Bonds' name or initials on them, are dated from 2001 through 2003. Prosecutors queried Bonds closely about them, but he denied using the drugs and said he had never seen the documents before.

Steroid screen results

At one point, prosecutor Jeff Nedrow showed Bonds the results of a steroid screen ordered in November 2000 by BALCO's founder, Victor Conte. Nedrow said the tested urine sample belonged to Bonds, and he noted that the report showed Bonds had elevated levels for the injectable steroid nadrolone and for methenolone, a steroid available in both injectable and oral form.

"I got to ask, Mr. Bonds," the prosecutor said. "There's this number on a document with your name ... and it does have these two listed anabolic steroids as testing positive in connection with it.

Ellen DeGeneres Gets Emotional

ET has the latest...

ELLEN DeGENERES turned serious during the taping of her show today as she spoke about the murder of LAWRENCE KING, a California boy who was shot on February 12 by a male classmate after King asked him to be his Valentine.

"Larry is not a second-class citizen," Ellen said during the show set to air today. "I am not a second-class citizen. It is okay if you are gay."

Ellen went on to say that she feels a lot of hate stems from jokes, movies, speeches and other parts of the media, which she says needs to stop. "All of it is unacceptable," she said. "Laughing at someone because he's gay is just the start of it."

She says it's time for a change. "To be gay you can get killed for it ... we need to change the message."

HANNA: A CITY'S HAVEN

You'd also have 20 miles of trails that wind through one of the largest pieces of true Coastal Hardwood Hammock left on the Southeastern coast. Why not throw in a 60-acre freshwater lake where speckled perch bite year-round and 10-pound largemouth bass get caught by kids?

While you're wishing, add over 100 species of seasonally indigenous birds, including the white pelican, belted kingfisher and sharp-skinned hawks. Don't forget possums, raccoons, armadillos, squirrels, marsh rabbits and an elusive bobcat or two.

The truth is you do own the parcel of land described above if you live in the City of Jacksonville. It's Kathryn Abbey Hanna Park, owned and operated by the city. And as taxpayers and residents, it's yours.

It was the fishing that called me to Hanna Park. The name has come up almost weekly, while writing fishing reports or forecasts for the newspaper.
